Many witches of today refer to their pets as their familiar but the original belief was of a darker notion. In the dark ages, familiars were definitely NOT kind and fluffy! They could be quite menacing when their demands were not fulfilled but the witches of the dark ages found their familiars to be helpful when it came to their works.
